Jessica + Dave | Aldous Photography | Martin Johnson House

Modern Twist on Traditional

Jessica and Dave had a modern take on a traditional Filipino wedding ceremony and reception at the quietly stunning Martin Johnson House.

Jessica and her Bridesmaids all glowed!

The gorgeous rose gold dresses, styles customized to fit each individual’s personality, were such a complimentary color to the bright pops of purple.

To shake things up a bit, Dave had two Groomswomen!

He and the rest of the Groomsmen wore more traditional Filipino outfits, breezy formal and transparent button-down shirts.

Once the Bridal Party was all together, they painted a beautiful picture of rose gold, creams, plums, and lavenders.

The ceremony was out on the front lawn overlooking the sea and the day couldn’t have been more beautiful!

A traditional Filipino wedding ceremony is often conducted in a Catholic Church, but they incorporated many aspects of that traditional ceremony to theirs so as to bring forth the traditional values into their marriage.

In the black and white picture below, we see the Bride and groom wearing a garland of flowers.

This garland was woven into a circle and placed over their heads in an infinity symbol to represent their lasting promise to each other.

After the ceremony, the happy couple was able to escape to take some quiet time for themselves where Aldous Photography worked their magic and caught some priceless moments.

The Martin Johnson House has access to some of the most breathtaking spots to look out over the ocean.

Jessica and Dave chose to go with a rustic, vintage motif for their decor and we love all these tiny details!

The many custom doorknobs and lace were such a delicate and thoughtful touch!

Thankfully for Jessica and Dave, they had a brilliant Coordinator, Jenna Carino, to help them achieve their vision!

After dinner, instead of cake, Dave and Jessica wanted to further celebrate the Filipino culture

by having us serve their guests with a colorful mix of desserts!

We provided an ice cream sundae station with coconut ice cream and a mountain of exciting toppings for each guest to serve themselves.

Dave’s family also brought traditional home-made Filipino desserts!

Everything was lovely and we felt so honored to be chosen to help spend this special day with Jessica and Dave!

Breezy, Beautiful Ocean-Front Venue of Your Dreams

We just recently did a post about a spectacular wedding at this venue and thought we’d set the spotlight on the venue itself!

Thanks to True Photography who took all of these amazing shots, this venue takes our breath away!

If you haven’t noticed from these pictures, the views at Scripps Seaside Forum are phenomenal!

San Diego has some of the best beaches in California, but the waters in La Jolla are especially clear

and being there for a ceremony is like being on your own private island retreat.

Outside, there are multiple location options for a ceremony, cocktail hour, and general lounging spaces.

Each provides unique and priceless photos with incredible backdrops.

Inside, the dining and reception area can be separated by sliding wall panels, in case you want the dining area to be a surprise for your guests!

The room exudes warmth and artistry unique to the Scripps Main Hall and can be modified with drapes to your liking.

Here we can see the upper mezzanine level delicately shrouded by the elegant wall drapes.

It is an option that can add a more formal atmosphere to the theatre-like space.

We absolutely adore working at Scripps Seaside Forum and wanted to thank

all of the wonderful venue staff who are there at a moments notice if needed.

The events we’ve worked there in the past have been some of our absolute favorites!

Sara + Chris at Darlington House

We are so excited to share one of our favorites from Darlington House – get ready for a galore of details! When we mean details, we mean DETAILS. With a mix of amber water goblets, shades of pinks and those luscious garland runners call for some of the best looking set ups we’ve seen for a reception. Seriously, salad on a table never looked so pretty! Let’s not forget that dessert bar by Extraordinary Desserts – it had delicious, and of course, extraoridinary, written all over it. Everything was just magazine worthy. To the talented Luminaire Images, we thank you for these photos that you captured for S + C’s big day!

Lindsay & Nick at Darlington House

Oh darling, we absolutely LOVE catering to this venue. From the ceremony space to the reception, the natural charm, and of course the close proximity to the beach, Darlington House has it all! J + N’s big day definitely had beauty written all over it. With the popular garland runner look on tables, a fountain ceremony, and that soft color palette, everything complimented together so perfectly!

Marcela & David at La Jolla Woman’s Club

Thank you, Tim Otto Photography, for capturing this beautiful wedding for M + D! They were joined together by family and friends for a lovely church ceremony as the day ventured over to La Jolla’s Women Club for endless amounts of laughs, dancing, and overall happiness. Decadent food, enchanting floral, and a theme of rustic mixed with seaside elegance made for a perfect detailed day.

Rachel & Phillip at La Jolla Woman’s Club

Rachel and Phillip got married at Cuvier Park, followed by a beautiful reception at the La Jolla Woman’s Club. Bridesmaids wore long navy dresses and carried cute bouquets of pastel flowers and succulents. They chose white linens with dark fruitwood chairs and even placed a menu at each place setting tucked in the navy napkins. Their reception featured an awesome band and a fun photo booth for all the guests.

Darlington House Venue Spotlight

Check out these amazing photos from some of our recent events at the Darlington House! We love the architecture of the house and all the beautiful patios and gardens. The Egyptian Patio with the fountain is such a perfect ceremony spot, and the Rose Garden is a beautiful reception area with red brick and flowers all around. We love how there’s so many different areas of this venue that gives couples a ton of great photo spots!

Laura and Adam had such a nice ceremony and reception at the Darlington House! We love how this wedding was elegant but had a rustic, country feel. The bridesmaids wore different shades of pink and purple, which added so much color to the wedding party. Their beach photos are gorgeous!

We love these photos from another beautiful La Jolla Woman’s Club wedding. Kirstyn and Henry’s guests loved the donut bar that they had for dessert! They also had the most adorable place cards. Instead of using traditional place cards, they tied their guests’ names and table numbers to a little treat and had them find their seats that way. The theme of this wedding was elegant but beachy and we loved this vibe!
