What It Takes to Cater Temecula From a San Diego Kitchen

Temecula is an hour up the 15 from our kitchen, and we make that drive often. Wine country weddings at the properties that allow outside caterers. Hibachi catering for backyard milestone parties out in the valley. Taco bars at family gatherings. BBQ at ranch-style estate events. Italian menus at the older properties where the architecture asks for it. Personal Touch Dining has built the catering operation for a wider cuisine range in Temecula than anywhere else we serve, partly because the residents here ask for it and partly because the venue mix (wineries, estates, family backyards) demands flexibility. The drive is part of the planning, not an afterthought.

Why Temecula Hosts Bring Us Up From San Diego

Four things that hold true on every Temecula booking we run.

Winery Catering Where Outside Caterers Are Welcome

Most Temecula wineries require in-house catering. The ones that don't open up the menu to whatever the couple actually wants. We cater at the winery properties that allow outside teams, design menus that pair with the property's wines, and coordinate with the winery's event manager on access, kitchen use, and load-in. If you're considering a winery wedding, ask whether they permit outside catering. If yes, we can probably work there.

Hibachi: A Chef Cooking in Front of Your Guests

Live hibachi catering is one of our most-requested Temecula formats. We bring a chef with a tabletop teppanyaki grill, steak, chicken, shrimp, and vegetarian proteins, fried rice, vegetables, and house sauces. The chef cooks each station's food in front of the guests at that station. Works for backyard birthday parties, corporate events, and milestone celebrations. The interactivity is the show.

A Cuisine Range That Fits the Valley

Italian for the older properties. Mexican and taco bars for casual family events. BBQ for ranch and backyard parties. Pizza catering with stone-fired ovens for laid-back gatherings. Plated wedding dinners for the formal end of the spectrum. Temecula asks for a wider range of cuisines than most cities we serve, so we cook it all.

The Drive Up Doesn't Compromise the Food

Temecula is about an hour from our San Diego kitchen, sometimes 90 minutes in Friday traffic. We've engineered the prep and travel timing to handle it: refrigerated trucks for cold items, temperature-controlled holding for hot foods, on-site finishing for anything that has to be cooked fresh. The food arrives at your venue at the same quality as if our kitchen were ten minutes away.

Catering Menus and Service Modes for Temecula Events

The cuisines, formats, and event types we cater most often in the Temecula Valley.

Wine Country Wedding Catering

Plated multi-course wedding dinners at Temecula wineries that allow outside caterers, private estates, and family ranches. Station receptions, family-style spreads, and outdoor ceremonies with reception service following. Full bar service with certified bartenders, rental coordination, and timeline management included. See our wedding catering page for menu samples.

Hibachi Catering

Live hibachi with a chef cooking on a tabletop teppanyaki grill in front of your guests. Steak, chicken, shrimp, and vegetarian protein options. Fried rice prepared on the grill, vegetables sautéed alongside, house sauces for dipping. Hibachi works for backyard birthdays, corporate team events, milestone parties, and rehearsal dinners. Each chef station serves about 10-15 guests.

Mexican Catering and Taco Bars

Taco bars with carne asada, carnitas, grilled chicken, and vegetarian protein. Mexican stations with elote, esquites, rice, and chips with three salsas. Plated Mexican-inspired dinners for formal events. Pair it with margaritas, agua frescas, and Mexican beer through full bar service.

BBQ Catering for Ranches and Backyards

Smoked brisket (12-hour smoke), pulled pork with two sauce options, grilled tri-tip, grilled chicken, and a vegetarian protein. Classic sides: mac and cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, baked beans, watermelon salad. BBQ works well at Temecula’s ranch venues and outdoor estate properties.

Italian and Pizza Catering

House-made pasta with sauce options (Bolognese, vodka, pesto, pomodoro). Antipasti boards with cured meats, cheeses, marinated vegetables, and olives. Salads with good olive oil and tomatoes. Stone-fired pizza catering with on-site pizza ovens for casual gatherings and larger parties.

Corporate Catering and Off-Site Events

Corporate catering for Temecula companies, off-site corporate events at wineries, and team-building gatherings. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner formats. Common requests include hibachi corporate events and team-building cooking classes.

Temecula Birthday and Milestone Catering

Birthday catering for milestone celebrations (40th, 50th, 60th), Sweet 16s, and family parties at Temecula homes and event venues. See our birthday party catering page for menu builds.

If your event has a specific cuisine direction or fusion concept, we build menus to fit. Temecula gets more cross-cuisine requests than most of the cities we cover.

Frequently Asked Questions About Catering in Temecula

The answer changes year to year as wineries update their policies, so the cleanest path is to ask your venue directly: “Does your winery allow outside catering?” If yes, we can almost certainly work there. We’ve cooked at properties across the De Portola Wine Trail, Rancho California Road, and the De Luz wine area. Send us the venue name and we’ll confirm we can cater there before you sign the venue contract.

One or more chefs arrive at your venue with portable teppanyaki grills, propane, ingredients, and tableware. Each grill station serves about 10-15 guests at a time. The chef cooks the proteins, vegetables, and fried rice in front of the guests at that station while interacting with them. For a backyard event, we typically set up two or three stations depending on guest count. The whole show takes about 45 minutes per station, and we sequence groups through if you have more guests than stations can handle simultaneously.

Three things matter for the drive: cold stays cold, hot stays hot, and anything time-sensitive gets finished on-site. We use refrigerated transit for cold items, properly-sized hot holding equipment for proteins and starches that need to stay warm, and on-site finishing for items that benefit from last-minute cooking (hibachi proteins, pizza in the oven, sauces). The team arrives 3 to 4 hours before service to set up, plate, and check temperatures on every dish before guests arrive.

Wedding pricing depends on guest count, menu, service mode, and bar service. The drive from San Diego adds to the staffing line (more hours per team member for the round trip) and the rental coordination. We don’t publish flat rates because every event runs different. Send your date, headcount, the venue, and a sense of menu direction and we’ll build a complete quote within a few business days.

If your home has a working kitchen with an oven, a stovetop, and refrigerator space we can use, that gives us flexibility for prep and warming. If your kitchen is limited or you don’t want us using it, we bring our own portable equipment (ovens, induction burners, refrigeration). For larger events, we set up a tented prep area outside. We walk the home before the event date to figure out what kitchen access works best for your specific event.

Yes, and Temecula clients request this more than any other market we serve. Multi-cuisine setups work well for large events where guests want choices: a taco bar for one group, a hibachi station for the interactive crowd, pizza for the kids and the late-night snack. We staff each station separately, time the food prep, and design the menu so the stations complement rather than compete with each other.

Wedding bookings at Temecula wineries and outdoor venues run 8 to 14 months out for peak season (April through October). Backyard hibachi parties and family gatherings can usually be scheduled 6 to 10 weeks ahead. Last-minute Temecula bookings (under 4 weeks) are possible for some menus but the drive distance makes our scheduling tighter than for closer cities. Earlier is always better.
